Shepherd's Center of the Cannon Valley 2017 Officers
Cannon Valley Senior Center
As of January 1st, Shepherd’s Center of the Cannon Valley will be known as the Cannon Valley Senior Center (CVSC). Confusion with the name was the determining factor in deciding to change the name to the Cannon Valley Senior Center. People new to the area and others often thought Shepherd’s Center was a senior housing facility…a church…a homeless shelter…nursing home or just plain didn’t know what the center was all about.
When Shepherd’s Center started in Cannon Falls over 20 years ago, it was a member of a national organization, Shepherd’s Center of America. However, shortly after their formation, the board made the decision to discontinue its relationship with the national organization.
The services and programs will continue and hopefully expand under the new name. The soon to be Cannon Valley Senior Center takes pride in featuring senior adults who volunteer their life experience and skills to benefit the community. As their vision statement says, “Seniors serving seniors, serving the community.” CVSC is a non-profit organization promoting lifelong community involvement for senior adults through intergenerational, interfaith activities which promote significance, purpose and meaning for fruitful lives.”
The board is excited about the change and hope it will be less confusing. The Cannon Valley Senior Center will continue to operate out of the Cannon Community Center, where they have access to a gymnasium, pickle ball, table tennis, computers and much more.
“We will continue to do our very best in serving the seniors and all citizens of the Cannon Valley Area,” commented executive director, Rod Johnson, “as we will soon be known as the “Cannon Valley Senior Center.”
The hours will remain the same, open Monday through Friday’s from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. They are located at 120 State Street West in the Cannon Community Center.
