Greetings from Shepherd’s Center of the Cannon Valley! If you haven’t stopped in lately, make it a point to come in and see our new look. A big thank you goes out to Bill Donaldson, Ron Stromme, Steve Malecha and Chuck Rademacher for giving the Shepherd’s Center office a “makeover!”
We have some exciting news to share concerning Shepherd Center’s annual fund raising event. During our trip to Nashville
last year, we were treated to a show by “The Fiddleman” Tim Watson. It was unanimous among those that went to Nashville that his show was the highlight of the entire trip. We have just secured Tim Watson and his band to perform at the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium on Saturday, August 18th. Please mark this date on your calendar, as you won’t want to miss this amazing show, direct from Nashville! Tim has opened shows for many superstars like George Strait, Ricky Skaggs, George Jones, Keith Urban, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, and The Judds, just to name a few. Tim had the # 1 show at the Opryland Show Park for over 5 years and currently has the #1 show in Nashville. This will be Shepherd Center’s major fund raising event of the year, and it promises to be an extraordinary show…don’t miss it!
Coming up on Friday, May 4th is our “Adventures in Learning” program and it just might be our most popular ever. You won’t want to miss out on two outstanding speakers; first it’s Beth Giese, Cannon Falls Superintendent of Schools who will talk about the current state of our school system and what might lie ahead. Our second speaker is very well known, having spent over 30 years working for WCCO television and the author of a new book. Don Shelby, former television anchor will be on hand to share his thoughts and stories with those in attendance. There is still room if you’d like to attend, but please call Shepherd’s Center to reserve your spot at
507-263-2136 ASAP. “Adventures in Learning” starts at 9:30 a.m. and is held at St. Ansgar’s Church in Cannon Falls. Refreshments will be served mid-morning and a meal will be served at the conclusion of the program. The cost to attend is only $6; please RSVP by calling 507-263-2136. Don’s new book will be available for sale and he will be on hand to autograph each book.
Our trip to Cape Cod is officially sold out, but we still have room for our trip to Branson, November 25th through December 1st. Enjoy this Branson Show Extravaganza for only $599, with motorcoach transportation to and from Cannon Falls. For more
information or to sign up, contact Shepherd’s Center.
We are in need of volunteers to help deliver meals-on-wheels. Those interested may choose their own schedule which ranges from once a month to as often as you’d like. If a regular schedule doesn’t work, we are also looking for substitute drivers. Give Twyla a call for more information.
In mid-April we sent letters out for our annual “Business Appeal.” Thank you so much for your support of Shepherd’s Center, we could not continue without support from our area businesses. We also received memorials last month for Richard Hillman, Stanley Lindholm and Dorothy Knoblauch. As I’ve mentioned before, 100% of our entire budget comes from our community and is spent in the community.
We hope to see a lot of you at “First Thursday” on May 3rd as Shepherd’s Center will have a display. We have a bus heading up to Target Field on Wednesday, May 9th to watch the Twins take on the Los Angeles Angles and thanks to all of you who signed up.
This past Monday, country music legend Willie Nelson celebrated his 79th birthday. I actually had the privilege of seeing him in concert a few times over the years, and I leave you this month with one of my favorite Willie Nelson quotes;“When I started counting
my blessings, my whole life turned around.” Isn’t it the truth?
