·Meals-on-Wheels Drivers – Shepherd’s Center coordinates the delivery drivers for Meals-on-Wheels. There is an ongoing need for additional drivers for scheduled and/or occasional back-up routes. Call Twyla at 507-263-2136 for information on this opportunity!
·Adventures in Learning – Help plan and conduct four events per year. This program provides a way to grow, learn and enjoy various speakers. A combination of educational and entertainment, participants come together and share each other’s company over coffee and lunch.
·Book Buddies – Volunteer during the school year to read to first graders at the Cannon Falls Elementary school. Once a week you’ll enjoy spending time and reading with these young people! This is a program we are hoping to expand to include the Randolph School district and also St. Paul’s school in Cannon Falls. For more information, contact Shepherd’s Center at 507-263-2136
·Handyman Assistance – If you’re a handy man, we occasionally have people in the area that need some type of help with minor things in their home. We also need help at the Shepherd Center office from time-to-time. Let us know if this is your specialty and you’d like to volunteer!
•Cannon Valley Fair - We are in need of many volunteers to help work the gates of the Cannon Valley Fair, July 1st through the 4th each year.
PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES AT SHEPHERD’S CENTER
·What is Your Specialty? – We like to feature senior adults who volunteer their life experience and skills to benefit the community. Whatever your background or area of expertise, we’d love to have you share your skills by volunteering through Shepherd’s Center. Let us know your thoughts and ideas!
·Internet Access – The Shepherd’s Center has Internet access and computers available to the public. Senior adults are encouraged to stop by and use the computers anytime during regular business hours. Assistance is also available if you’re new to computers and classes are held annually for computer beginners.
·TRIAD – Held the second Wednesday of each month, TRIAD is an event where law enforcement professionals, seniors and community groups partner to meet the crime safety needs of seniors. The programs are very interesting and the public is invited to attend the 2nd Wednesday of each month, starting at ten a.m. at Shepherd’s Center.
·Health & Fitness – Exercise in the gym adjacent to Shepherd’s Center! The gym is available for walking, strolling or jogging and even to shoot a few baskets! Bring soft soled shoes and enter through the Shepherd Center office.
·Community Health Fair– The Community Health Fair is held annually each October. Learn about healthy lifestyle options, senior services and housing. Enjoy over 30 exhibitors from around the area who will be on hand to answer your questions in a fun and casual atmosphere. Best of all…it’s free!
·Wii and Library– Stop by and take a look at the many books, magazines, games, puzzles, videos and more that are available to enjoy! We also have available to the public, a big screen television with many Wii games to choose fun; try it…it’s FUN!
·Tax Preparation– If it’s tax time and you need assistance filling out your tax returns, we have individuals ready to help! Call us at Shepherd’s Center for more information, 507-263-2136.
·Trips– Shepherd’s Center conducts many day trips throughout the year and a couple of longer trips as well. In the past, we have had trips to the Smokey Mountains, Cape Cod, Nashville and Branson. Day trips have included the Minnesota Arboretum, Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves and more. Let us know if you have ideas on some interesting trips.
·Concerts – Each year we feature a major concert at the Cannon Falls Auditorium as a fund raising event. In the past we’ve featured Tim “The Fiddleman” Watson…Bob Wootton…Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder...Caitlyn Smith and John Mueller’s “Winter Dance Party.” We can always use volunteers to help plan and work our fund raising concert event.
Shepherd’s Center is located at 120 State Street West in Cannon Falls. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m.; check us out on the web at www.shepherdscenter.info. 100% of our entire budget comes from our community and is spent in the community.
